Ubuntu Themes
Don't like the way your
Ubuntu looks and don't like the themes that are available on Ubuntu?
Well, here are some themes that I have downloaded.
These themes are gotten from Gnome-look
website. The themes that are here are sometimes difficult to
download and some sites want money for priority download. I
am hosting them for free as I want people to have access to them
without any strings attached. It is the least I can do for
the folks from Ubuntu forums and other sites that have helped me and
not
asked for anything in return.
So
without further
ado, here are some themes. To install the themes by dragging
the compressed archive (.zip, .tar.gz, .tar.bz, etc.) into
your themes preferences. It is not documented anywhere to
drop the compressed archive. I struggled with this for some
time until Aysiu over at Ubuntu forums told me. I
counter-intuitively decompressed the the archive, how dare me.
To get to the theme preferences go
to System--->Preferences--->Theme and a Themes
Preferences window will open. I will post more themes as I
get them.
- Aero/OS
X/KDE Theme - A really cool set of icons that will give that
detailed look. This is a large download (~60MB), but well
worth it. It reminds me a lot of OS X.
- Aqwod
- Still more OS X themed icons.
- Black
Cherry - A really cool looking theme giving you a nice black
looking borders. Take a look at it here.
- Linsta
Orange Black Plastic - Want to have a Vista theme
without the Vista problems? Check it out here.
- Linsta
Midnight Blue Plastic - A different take on the
Orange Black Plastic theme. Check it out here.
- Glass
Icons - Give your icons that semi-tranparent look.
- Windows Vista Areo Icons - Give your Gnome that Vista look
with icons.
- Ubuntu
Studio - This theme will give you that Ubuntu Studio
look. The archive contains 4 .deb files to install.
Once installed go to System---Preferences--->Theme and
click the Customize button. Select Ubuntu Studio in the
Controls, Window Border, and Icons portion.
- OS
X Leopard Theme - This one has it all. There is a
very cool
OS X theme, OS X style icons, OS X cursors, and 2 login screens and
proper fonts. OS X uses Lucida Grande font.
Refer to my section on font installation here.
The .tar.gz archive contains 10 different archives that you can
drag and drop into your Theme Preferences. Refer to my page on tranforming your Ubuntu desktop into OS X here.
